TWO OF A KIND: DR. CHUKWUEMEKA EZEIFE AND DAME VIRGY ETIABA SPEAK ON THEIR REGRETS

Former Governors of Anambra State: (left to right) Dame Virgy Etiaba and Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife.

These two accomplished Nigerians share quite a few similarities; they were once governor of Anambra state at various. While Dr. Ezeife made history in 1992 as the first civilian governor of the present day Anambra, Dame Etiaba fondly called Mama Anambra made history on the 17th day of March, 2006 when she became the first female governor of Anambra and the only female governor ever in Nigeria. When Ogene Anambra asked them what their regrets were, below were the answers they gave; Do you have any regret?

DR. EZEIFE:
Yes, I have regrets. One, I regret that when I was governor of Anambra state, I did not advertise my activities because I was hoping for something bigger. We did not envisage to be thrown out abruptly by the military. If I say I don’t have regrets, then I am joking. There are many things to regret. I didn’t take my salary, not one kobo, when I was serving as governor and I had no security vote.

DAME ETIABA:
I would not say that I have any regrets because when I was leaving office I was just as happy as a lark because I peacefully handed over to Mr. Peter Obi when the Appeal Court nullified his impeachment, as a mother. Each time I remember this, I am very happy as I left a legacy of loyalty in Anambra State by vacating the office for my boss without any rancour.   This is what I stand for and the virtues I represent; loyalty, service to people and the fear of God.
